Learning Outcome 5-6

Learning Outcome 5-6

Learning Outcome 5-6: Document their work using appropriate conventions (MLA). Control sentence-level error (grammar, punctuation, spelling).

MLA format and local revison aren’t the main focus, yet they are still important. Citing sources using MLA guidelines was never strength of mine. Half of the battle was trying to find the information to add as for some websites were lacking the info needed to correctly source it. In my significant writing piece I was able to correctly source the text that I used in the essay. The Little Seagull has sections within the book that really helped with the understanding of MLA. I referenced the book in order to help me get the correct format down for my essay. Before actually knowing how to properly cite a source I would just use an online website such as Easybib.com that would do all the work for me. But as efficient that may be, its not always correct. Making local revision is probably the easier task of revising a whole essay. For me its important to re-read the entire essay at least2 times, as I did with my significant writing piece. It is also a good idea to have someone else read it so they can catch an errors that you may have not noticed. With that being said being said while re-reading it it is important make sure you have the correct spelling as well as the proper punctuation and grammar. After reviewing my essay I was able to identify were commas needed to be placed or if a sentence was too long. Going through it I noticed that some words had been autocorrected to a word that I wasn’t even trying to use. This is why it is important to look for these local mistakes, so in the end your paper will make sense. Looking at this final essay I believe there are little to no local mistakes present. I believe that the discussion and awareness has made me become better at finding these mistakes and has made me become better at using MLA formatting.
